Custom Bathroom Design Canberra

We design and build custom bathrooms for Canberra homeowners: a layout planned around how your household uses the room, materials chosen for how they wear, and one team from quote to handover.

What a custom bathroom is, and who it suits

It suits you if the room you have fails in a way you can name. The vanity sits where the door wants to swing. There is nowhere to put anything down. The shower is where the bath should be, or the bath is taking the floor a proper shower needs. Or you simply want a finish no packaged renovation offers.

Custom covers every style we are asked for, modern, classic or vintage, and every size from a powder room to a large ensuite. It is not automatically the expensive option. A lot of custom work keeps the existing plumbing where it is and spends the effort on the details instead: the width of the vanity, the height of the niche, where the tile cuts fall. Moving the plumbing is a separate decision with its own cost, and we tell you plainly which side of that line your design is on.

What we do on a custom job

  • The layout comes first. The shape of the room decides where the vanity, shower, toilet and bath can sensibly go, so that is where we start. Every element has to fit with room to move around it.
  • Materials are chosen for how they wear. Tile, stone, timber and glass each cost differently, clean differently and age differently, and each gives the room a different feel. Our tiles and materials guide compares them one by one.
  • The tiling is part of the design. Our own crew lays the tile you chose, so the set-out - where the cuts land, how the pattern meets the niche - is planned before the first tile goes on. More on that on our tiling services page.
  • The extras go in while the walls are open. A heated towel rail, a steam shower, a statement bath, a shower niche sized to what you actually keep in it, light where you need it at the mirror, and an exhaust fan that clears the room.
  • Joinery is made to measure where a stock vanity would leave dead space. It is ordered to your measurements with a lead time of two to four weeks, so it is ordered as early as the design allows.

Oleg runs every job himself, from the first visit to handover. You deal with the owner throughout.

What to decide before we quote

  • Who uses the room, and when. Two adults getting ready at once need a different room from one person with the morning to themselves.
  • Whether the fixtures stay where they are. Keeping the toilet and the shower in their current positions is the biggest saving available. Moving them in a slab-on-ground house means cutting the concrete, which adds two to four days to the job.
  • A direction rather than a product list. A few photographs of rooms you like tell us more than a list of brands. Our guide to choosing a bathroom design helps you find the words for it.
  • Your must-haves and your nice-to-haves, written down separately. The quote can then price both, and you choose with the numbers in front of you.

The quickest way to answer most of this is to build the room in our instant quote designer and send it. We receive the layout and the product list; no price appears on screen, and the quote comes from us in writing after a site inspection.

How the job runs

A custom bathroom follows the same order as every renovation we do: a free measure and a written, itemised quote, then design and planning, then the build. The whole sequence, and the handover pack you receive at the end, is set out on our bathroom renovations page.

Where we work

We design custom bathrooms across the ACT and in Queanbeyan: in established Inner North and Inner South houses, where the room was built for a different way of living, and in newer Gungahlin and Molonglo Valley homes, where the builder chose the layout rather than you.

All eight ACT districts plus Queanbeyan.

Frequently asked questions

Is custom design only for large bathrooms?
No. A powder room or a small ensuite gains as much from it as a large main bathroom, because in a small room every part of the layout is a decision you live with. Custom describes how the room is planned, not how big it is.
Can I choose my own fixtures and fittings?
Yes. Pick them yourself, bring a list of what you have seen and liked, or ask us to recommend. Whatever you settle on goes into the written, itemised quote, so you can see what each choice adds before you commit.
Does a custom bathroom take longer?
Usually a little. The design stage takes more back and forth, and made-to-measure joinery has a lead time of two to four weeks from order. A standard renovation runs two to four weeks; one that waits on custom joinery or moves plumbing runs four to six.
